On Kaitlyn's thirteenth birthday, Vanna T. Fair, a conglomeration of all young, female pop stars and celebrities, shows up and follows Kaitlyn everywhere, incessantly giving her advice on how to be "a real girl." This is all rather problematic since Vanna is figment of Kaitlyn's imagination, and so Kaitlyn is the only one who can see or hear her. Worse, following Vanna's advice has many unexpected outcomes. Still, Vanna has Kaitlyn pretending to be stupid, trying to improve her appearance (by enduring great pain), ignoring her crush and, worst of all, ditching her best friend to hang out with the shallowest girl in school. Luckily for Kaitlyn, she has strong female role models in her life, such as her mother, teacher and best friend, who help her decide who she truly wants to be.
